Here at Edward Johnson we work for clients throughout Britain and further afield. Nonetheless, our workshop is the heart of our business, an inspiring place to work and something we are immensely proud of. Based in rural Bosham on the West Sussex / Hampshire border we are surrounded by countryside and enjoy views of Chichester Cathedral, the tips of sailing masts at Dell Quay and Goodwood Racecourse nestled on the nearby hills of the South Downs.
Our workshop allows us to fully explore our specialist materials in great depth and is key to the evolution of our furniture design. Each of our craftsmen have their own benches – handmade by themselves to suit their individual working styles. The workshop is fully equipped with specialist hand tools that have been collected over many years, such as dovetail saws, Japanese saws, an array of chisels, planes and various spoke-shaves to name just a few. Accompanying our traditional hand tools is an array of high-tech specialist machinery such as a digital sander, digital dimension saw and vacuum press. Whether traditional or the latest technology, all our tools have a shared and equally important role to play in the making of our furniture.
Our clients are always welcome and positively encouraged to visit our workshop at any time during the design or making process, to experience first-hand our methodologies, craftsmanship and expertise that bring our challenging designs to fruition.
